Many women have a bustline that they'd like to enhance with larger, fuller breasts. Having greater volume and curves can make breasts look and feel terrific, and breast augmentation procedures provide a safe and permanent means of achieving this.
There are several different breast augmentation procedures and different types of implants including saline and silicone. At your initial consultation, Dr. Arrington will discuss your breast augmentation desires in depth with you, and he'll explain the advantages and disadvantages of each of your cosmetic options.
Implant and Incision Decisions
In most breast augmentation techniques, an implant filled with saline or silicone is placed behind the chest muscle, for the most natural look and feel. Placement of the implant under the muscle also maintains a woman's ability to do breast self-examinations and have mammographies.
Placement of the incision for the implant is another aspect that differs among the breast augmentation techniques; incisions can be made under the fold of the breast, or around the areola, for example.
Breast Augmentation Surgery
A breast augmentation surgery can be done on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia or sometimes with local anesthesia and sedation. The procedure will take several hours, depending on the type of breast augmentation being done and whether one or both breasts are being augmented.
A patient can expect to experience post-surgery soreness, swelling, and bruising, although these symptoms will be temporary. A return to normal daily activities, including light work duties, can be accomplished within a week or so. Dr. Arrington will give you complete post-surgery information and guidelines to follow.
