Male Breast Reduction

Many men have troubling fatty deposits or excess breast tissue on their chests — it's been estimated that 40% to 60% of the men in the U.S. have this concern, the medical term for which is gynecomastia. Enlarged male breasts may be hereditary or due to medications, impaired liver function, or a variety of other causes. Nowadays, a man can have a breast reduction procedure to achieve a new, firm chest contour.

Males of any age who are in good health may be good candidates for a male breast reduction procedure. If a man is overweight, it is advisable that he lose the excess weight before undergoing this procedure.

The breast reduction procedure is comprised of liposuction and/or the surgical removal of excess skin, tissue, and fat. It may be possible to perform the reduction on an outpatient basis, using general or local anesthesia. The breast reduction can also be performed in conjunction with another cosmetic procedure such as abdominal liposuction. There is little downtime after the procedure, and the results are permanent, although if the patient gains a lot of weight in the future, he may develop breasts again.
