Blepharoplasty
About
A blepharoplasty is a cosmetic procedure designed to rejuvenate the appearance of the eyes by addressing concerns related to aging, sagging skin, and excess fat. This procedure can effectively treat:
-
Loose or sagging skin that obscures the natural contour of the upper eyelid
-
Excess skin that hangs down from the upper eyelid, potentially impairing vision
-
Puffiness in the upper eyelids caused by excess fatty deposits
-
Under-eye bags that create a tired or aged appearance
-
Drooping lower eyelids that expose the white beneath the iris
-
Fine lines, wrinkles, and excess skin on the lower eyelids
How It Works
During a blepharoplasty, precise incisions are made to remove excess skin and fat while refining the contours of the upper and lower eyelids.
-
For the upper eyelids, an incision is placed within the natural crease, allowing for the removal of excess tissue and fat to restore a more defined, youthful appearance.
-
For the lower eyelids, an incision inside the eyelid (transconjunctival) is used to remove or reposition fat, reducing the appearance of under-eye bags. If excess skin needs to be addressed, a small incision just below the lash line may be made to smooth and tighten the area.
-
In some cases, laser resurfacing may be recommended to further enhance skin texture and reduce fine lines around the eyes.
Incisions are strategically placed to minimize visible scarring, and they typically fade over time to become nearly undetectable.
Benefits of a Blepharoplasty
A blepharoplasty rejuvenates the area around the eyes, helping patients look more rested, refreshed, and youthful. The procedure can also improve vision in cases where sagging upper eyelid skin obstructs sight.
